Michael Magee, MA, President

Michael brings over 20 years of experience in creating effective social change campaigns and programs across Canada and the US. His work has helped his clients find the nexus between financial resources and strategic action. He provides highly personalized strategic counsel to a range of political, philanthropic, investment and community organizations. His clients include some of the most visionary philanthropic and business leaders across North America. As both a visionary and organizer with a history of making things happen, he is rooted in a lifelong focus on strengthening democracy at both the movement and political levels.

His services range from developing nuanced political strategies to leveraging social investment for maximum social and environmental impact. He is a veteran of dozens of media, public affairs and financing campaigns from across North America. Michael has a rich background in conservation and social justice issues, ranging from climate change and wilderness protection to aboriginal rights and affordable housing.

Known as a broker and convener, Mike works with an outstanding network of financial, communications, political and opinion research associates. As a campaign and program designer, coach and political advisor, Michael is passionate about connecting people to their deepest values - and to each other - in order to leverage lasting, positive change.

Mike is currently working as the Chief of Staff to Mayor Gregor Robertson in Vancouver.


Suzanne Hawkes, MRM, Senior Consultant

Suzanne has been focused on strengthening the voice and impact of civil society organizations in Canada and overseas for over fifteen years. As a leadership trainer, facilitator, workshop leader, coach and campaign consultant, she has worked with hundreds of progressive social change organizations and movement-wide coalitions.

Suzanne is a trainer for the Rockwood Leadership Institute, the largest provider of multi-day, transformative leadership trainings for social change nonprofit and philanthropic organizations in the United States. Suzanne also facilitates organizational developent, strategic planning and campaign planning meetings and retreats for a number of coalitions and organizations across Canada and the US.

Suzanne is driven by a passion for supporting the inherent power, skills and wisdom in social change leaders and organizations. While emphasising leadership and communications, her training and consulting work also focuses on direct and third party political engagement.

Before joining Convergence, Suzanne was a co-founder of IMPACS Communications Centre, the first non-profit communications training and services centre in Canada.


Kristi Rivait, Associate

Kristi brings a wealth of experience to the team as a researcher, fundraiser and event organizer. Her educational background is in Asian and Pacific Rim Studies.

Her research ranges from political candidate and leadership analysis, philanthropic fundraising and growth opportunities to land tenure and ecosystem investigations for large scale conservation projects.

As a fundraiser, Kristi makes money happen. She provides fresh, outside-the-box ideas for events and helps an organization get the right people at the right time to start a dialogue, raise awareness and guarantee funding. Focusing on developing long term donor relations, Kristi connects potential donor dots to continually grow a secure funding base and teaches the immense value in developing a fundraising culture within the organizational structure. During all the events she organizes, she ensures key stakeholders feel their individual goals are met while their guests feel engaged and excited about each new project.
